Registry Mechanic Review Does Registry Mechanic Really Work?

Registry Mechanic is a very popular registry repair software program. It is produced by PC Tools, which makes other computer optimization software including Spyware Doctor and Desktop Maestro.

We have independently reviewed Registry Mechanic in order to test the program for ourselves and to see if it's worth your time. Our tests were all conducted on a Dell OptiPlex computer that had been in regular use by one of our editors. The partitions were all restored after testing to ensure accuracy.

Publisher

Registry Mechanic is produced by PC Tools, an established software company that has a good reputation. PC Tools has been around for a while, and they update their software on a regular basis.

PC Tools also produces other comptuer maintenance software including Spyware Doctor and Desktop Maestro.

Operating System Compatibility

Registry Mechanic operates with all versions of Microsoft Windows, including Vista.

Features

Registry Mechanic has several good features:

Our Test Registry Mechanic Review

Download And Installation

Registry Mechanic is available as a download from several websites. You are able to download and install the full program for free, and scan your system. However, to unlock the full program you must purchase a license.

Downloading and installing Registry Mechanic is a very easy process that went smoothly during our test.

Interface

Registry Mechanic's interface is streamlined and easy to read. It's easy to find the options you are looking for, however sometimes navigating the program becomes a little clunky at times.

The Scan

Registry Mechanic definitely has a good scan feature. It takes a bit longer than the fastest tool, RegCure, but it found just as many errors. There is a "deep scan" feature but this seems like a bit of fluff that's not really substantial.

Scan results are listed very clearly, and you're able to search through the results via text strings. This is especially useful for people who are familiar with the registry.

Other Features

The other features in Registry Mechanic are quite useful. There is a registry compactor which is a nice touch, however we don't think it's entirely necessary. It doesn't end up making that much of a difference. There is a startup programs manager that allows you to easily limit the amount of startup programs that load during the boot sequence.

Overall Registry Mechanic has a lot of great extra features, but we thought that most of them weren't really necessary. Most of these features are already available in Windows anyway.

Conclusions RegCure Review

Registry Mechanic is a good and relatively well-made program. Our biggest problem with this software was that it is a system and memory hog. Unfortunately this is a running trend with all PC Tools products. The program wants to run in the background, and this is entirely unnecessary for a registry cleaner.

Registry Mechanic is a program that does the job of cleaning the registry well, but it's a bit too cumbersome as a program. Those with slower computers might find that it is just too annoying to run because of the resources it sucks.

Registry Mechanic is a very effective means of cleaning the registry of obsolete and invalid files and solving errors related to the registry such as runtime, .dll, file extention problems, and registry exception errors.

It's a good choice, however we think that users might be happier with RegCure by ParetoLogic.
